Coil rubber is a dense looped fibre over a flexible rubber backing. It traps dirt, sand and water in the channels rather than letting it spread across your floor. The result is a mat that hoses clean in seconds, stays flexible across Australian temperature swings, and outlasts the universal stock mats most vehicles ship with.
PVC car mats are cheap and lightweight, but PVC stiffens and cracks in Australian heat, holds odours, and traps moisture against the floor. Most universal-fit shelf mats are PVC.
Carpet mats look refined when new and quiet under foot — but absorb mud, sand and water quickly. Stains and smells set in fast. Best reserved for low-traffic, dry-weather use.
3D plastic and TPE mats have tall raised edges and hold shape well, but the hard plastic feel and limited cushion makes them unforgiving on long drives — and they don’t conform as precisely as moulded rubber.
